Comparison of Awarding Bodies

  History and description Advantages Disadvantages
ILM

Institute of Leadership and Management Used to be NEBS but has now expanded into higher level qualifications
The largest management awarding body
Good flexibility, and with a good reputation Membership of ILM with access to wide range of on-line learning resources Not the best at anything – but no real faults either. Still regarded by some as “supervisory” even though this is no longer the case. Require slightly more taught days due to the way their syllabus is structured, so they work out more expensive.
BTEC

Now part of Edexcel, the largest general awarding body The most flexible of the three, so you can tailor the contents to your needs. Also the lowest registration fees at £65-95 per candidate Reputation sometimes takes a dip when there is a problem with A-levels or GCSEs even though BTEC is a separate part within Edexcel
CMI

The Chartered Management Institute, which was originally set up especially to raise the status of management to that of accountants, lawyers, and other professionals. Has the best brand name: “Blue Chip” Membership of CMI with access to wide range of on-line learning resources. Members can go on to Chartered Manager status.

Less flexible*, a bit more academic, more external assessment, and higher fees.

*from Sept 2008 CMI will mirror BTEC and ILM with a flexible Award / Certificate / Diploma structure

We are accredited by all three. Contact us to discuss the best one for you.
